Need to monitor your employees’ web surfing use or your kids’ online interaction? If so, Prismiq’s Commander Wireless Router with Internet Warning and Control Software (IWACS) Technology is for you. Not only does it offer a sneak peek at what users are doing and where they’re surfing, but it also provides transcripts of instant message. The trade-off, however, is that the 802.22b/g router lags on performance.

Security on yhe Commander Router includes both Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) and Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) encryption. The router’s firewall is adequate, with network-address-translation (NAT) features and the ability to block access to questionable sites.

The Commander Router’s IWASCS technology enables you to see who is connected, while monitoring incoming and outgoing traffic. For anxious parents and employers, the ability to track users’ comings and goings on the three major instant messaging services, such as AOL, Yahoo and MSN is priceless. The router can monitor an unlimied number of simultaneous chat sessions.

However, the Commander Router fell behind its 802.11g competition with a maximum throughput of 19.8Mbps at 10 feet. Its long-range score of 11.9Mbps at 200 feet was also mediocre, especially compared with multiple input, multiple output (MIMO) routers.
