Repair Wireless Connection Problem

Your access point seems to be running perfectly, almost 100% signal strength and the connection looks good, although for some reason you can’t connect to the web. There are several things which can causes it. Firstly, see if the Access Point has assigned an IP to your computer.

Click Start, Run, and type cmd and click OK. In the command prompt, type in

ipconfig /all

and press Enter. Under IP address, a number with the initial digits 192.168.X.X should appear. If that’s not the case, examine whether your router is set to use DHCP mode.

If you do have a proper IP address assigned, check whether the IP of the Access Point is set correctly as the DNS server. If this is not the case, go back to the command prompt and type

ipconfig /release

and press Enter. Wait until the settings have reset themselves and try to access the web again. If it doesn’t work, the problem could be with the setting on your router. Here, we will explain how these are adjusted on a Linksys router.

Repair Connection Problem

Click on Wireless from the main menu, and select Advanced Wireless Setting. For RTS Threshold enter the value 2304, for Fragmentation Threshold enter the values 2304, and adjust the Beacon Interval to 50. These settings adjust the data packet size and the timing with which the Access Point announces itself as the router on the network. Confirm these settings with Apply, and if all goes well you should be surfing the internet.
